Frosting Artist History

How Frosting Artist got Started

How did “Frosting Artist” get started?

I’ve always been quiet, reserved and loved creating things on my own. Whether it be painting, drawing, clay art, or pretty much whatever creative I could come up with, I would spend hours and sometimes days working on a particular project I had in mind.

Each idea would lead to the next and I never imagined I would begin something one person, let alone thousands, would be remotely interested in to the point they would be willing to pay to learn or purchase the goods that I’ve found to be a fun and fulfilling venture.

In the Spring of 2015 our kids preferred home lunch vs school lunch. To make lunch more fun for them, we hand cut some stencils and played with sweetened coloring and chocolate to make fun sandwiches each morning. They loved them and it wasn’t long before they had the coolest parents ever!

Little did I know, I would soon have requests for more elaborate and decorative designs that could only be accomplished using a layered stencil effect.

Stencils used on Graham Crackers

My first real layered stencil design took hours to create and even longer to figure out how to cut on the Silhouette Cameo using a plastic food “cutting board” which required four or five cuts for the blade to make it through the plastic. The order was for the image above to be frosted onto Graham Crackers. I was a little nervous but was honestly astounded with the (now seemingly crude) results and precision that could be achieved by simply layering icing!

I’ve spent hours and hours at the computer followed by even more hours mixing colors, frosting layers, playing around with icing consistency and perfecting the stenciling method. At first I was very apprehensive to let anyone in on my secret method of crisp clean icing lines and perfect layered icing art, but after hundreds of requests from all over the world, I realized other icing decorators aren’t my competition, but could actually benefit in their own businesses learning the technique I have enjoyed.

To this day, although spending hours creating and frosting a certain design, I am still amazed by the resulting icing images and love to see the surprise and joy in each client as they are handed their order.
